The HIV/AIDS Volunteer Enrichment Network (HAVEN) is a volunteer-based, non-profit agency whose mission is:

"To enhance the quality-of-life for those who are living with HIV and AIDS in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, without regard to race, religion, cultural heritage or sexual orientation, and with respect for privacy and confidentiality for them and their families."

We welcome you to our web site, whether you need help or want to help.

HAVEN is a network wherein those who live with HIV and AIDS can support each other, and where volunteers and staff are privileged to walk alongside and lend a hand. In coordination with the county health department, we offer a continuum of care throughout the county.

Specific services include:
  • Support Groups -- Led by trained professionals at confidential locations. Common Threads is for anyone who is HIV positive. This group meets every other Monday evening, alternating with the Addictions Group for HIV positive people in recovery from substance abuse. The Gay Menís Group is for HIV positive gay or bisexual men. They meet the third Wednesday of every month. The Brooklyn Park Lunch Bunch meets in northern Anne Arundel County two Fridays a month for lunch -- it is for anyone who is HIV positive.
  • Buddy Services Program -- Short-term volunteers are available for those who need a sympathetic ear or emotional support.
  • Outreach -- HAVEN produces newsletters, offers a speaker's bureau and provides AIDS awareness activities. This is a great way for someone who is open about their HIV status to raise awareness to the issue among civic groups and students.
  • Special Events -- The HAVEN community gathers several times a year for an annual picnic, crab feast, holiday party, and an observance of World AIDS Day.
  • Transportation -- HAVEN has trained, caring volunteers who are able to help you get to support group meetings and to your medical appointments.
  • Transitional Housing Program -- "Our House" is designed to operate like a real home for three single adults who need temporary shelter and supportive services while their health and personal situation stabilize.
  • Emergency Financial Assistance -- Temporary funding for rent, utilities and other basic needs.
  • Private Funds -- May be used for personal needs not covered by our grants.

But the more general service is the HAVEN community of support including a monthly meeting of HAVEN Friends, a semi-annual picnic, a holiday party, and World AIDS Day events. These are examples of activities that bring us all together as an extended family.
