Bushels of fun!

By Tony Teano

The summer is coming to an end, which can only mean one thing—its time for HAVEN’s annual Crab Feast.  Hosted again by Diane Goforth and Pete Peterson at their lovely home on Sullivan Cove at 301 Park Drive in Severna Park, this is an event that promises to be a crowd-pleaser.  If the day is hot, go tidal swimming (if the jellyfish haven’t arrived)—just bring a change of clothes and your own towel (outdoor shower available for cleanup).  Or, if you want to go sailing, ask Diane to take you out on a sunfish!   The party starts at noon on Saturday, September 20th, and lasts until 5 o’clock p.m..  Bushels of crabs will be there, of course!  Hotdogs and hamburgers and sodas round out the menu.  Feel free to bring a side-dish, but it isn’t required to attend.  All HAVEN client-events are non-alcoholic.  See the enclosed flyer for more details.  As a reminder about confidentiality, some folks may bring guests who don’t know about their HIV status (it could just be a day out at a picnic for them); use your best judgment in talking about HIV/AIDS and HAVEN-related matters.  If you can help cook, transport folks, setup or cleanup, please give Tony a call to let him know of your availability.

NEWS ROOM newsflash

The News Room will meet on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 12 noon.  Join us for snacks and silliness while we fold and label the piece of work you now so gingerly hold in your hands…. We really do have a lot of fun!

HELP ME, RHONDA!

By Rhonda Vous

  1. Rhonda, how do I get a Dreamgirls video?  The show was great and I want to see it again and again!

  1. Many thanks go to the cast and crew of the Dreamgirls for putting on a fabulous production and donating more than $10,000 to HAVEN!  If you missed the show, don’t miss the video.  It is available in two formats.  DVD is $25 and VHS is $20.  Call me at the office to reserve your copy.

“Help Me, Rhonda!” is an experimental new column.  If you have questions about HIV/AIDS, HAVEN, etc., please feel free to ask Rhonda—maybe your question will appear in the newsletter!  Send your question via snail-mail or email, or ring up Rhonda at the office!

SPIRITUAL RETREATS

By Tony Teano

HAVEN’s clients are fortunate to have strong ties to both the Quality of Life Retreats (410-974-1276) as well as to the Samaritan Ministries Retreats (202-889-7702).  To find out more information about these resources, call them. Or, come to a support group since you’ll probably meet folks who can tell you how great these programs are!  Retreat applications are available at the office.

Consumer Advisory Board

Meetings are tentatively scheduled on the first Thursday of the month at the HAVEN office.  For more information, contact Raymond at 410-626-2834.
