Q. When was HAVEN founded? A. HAVEN was founded in 1989 by a group of county residents looking for a way to address the needs of the HIV-affected community in Anne Arundel County. |
Q. Is your organization not-for-profit? A. Yes, HAVEN is a 501c3, non-profit organization. |
Q. What are HAVEN's geographic boundaries? A. We serve Anne Arundel County and the surrounding area if we have services which are not readily available there. |
Q. What other groups do you work with, if any? A. The Anne Arundel County Health Department refers most clients to us; they do the initial testing, counseling and case management for those who are non-Medicaid eligible or who do not have private insurance. Some churches that support HAVEN are the Metropolitan Community Church of the Chesapeake, Our Lady of Perpetual Help; St. Margaret's Episcopal Church; St. Mary's Catholic Church; Asbury United Methodist Church in Arnold; The Baltimore Methodist Conference; and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis. In addition to the local churches, Anne Arundel Community College supports HAVEN through the S.A.F.E. Harbor grant, which is committed to HIV/AIDS education and prevention, and to service learning |
Q. Does HAVEN need volunteers? A. Yes, we are very grateful for all the volunteers who make this community-based organization a haven. Volunteers come from college service-learning programs, area high schools, retirement homes, houses of worship, etc. If you are interested in volunteering for HAVEN, please visit our Volunteer Page. You may also call Sharon at 410-224-2437 or e-mail us at HavenInc@aol.com |
Q. How can I make a donation to HAVEN? A. You may send a check or money order to HAVEN, P.O. Box 514, Arnold, MD 21012-0514. You may also make a secure online donation to HAVEN through the Open Philanthropy Foundation. Just click on one of the Donate Now buttons located on each web page. The agency always needs to raise at least $35,000 in private funds every year to maintain the current level of services. Private donations, along with other fundraisers, will help us towards reaching that goal. We seek to expand and to improve services for clients, to promote HIV/AIDS awareness, and to develop agency publicity, none of which can be done without raising more money to support the agency. |
