| Volunteering |
Volunteers play a critical role in assisting HAVEN's efforts to provide life-affirming services to people living with HIV. Each day is a day of creation for someone involved with HAVEN. |
In providing a lift to a doctor's office or support group, you do so much more than simply give a ride to a client: your presence represents a connection to a larger community where they can seek resources; your words provide companionship; your listening lets them know there is someone who cares; and your sense of humor may even give them a good laugh! |
Through Buddy Services you provide people with a sense of community, good will, and companionship. |
Special event organizing, fundraising, board service, and donating a specific skill or talent are all examples of ways to participate in the HAVEN mission and create a stronger, more enriching community for people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. |
No matter how much time you can give, we work with you to utilize your gifts and talents. In doing any or all of these you are helping to create the community of HAVEN, a community of care and compassion. |
Currently HAVEN has a critical need for daytime transportation volunteers and Buddies. |
HAVEN provides volunteer trainings for anyone with a desire to help someone living with HIV. In training you will:
- Learn about testing, transmission and the epidemiology of HIV
- Learn about listening skills
- Learn about confidentiality
- Discover the common characteristics of addictions
- Hear about the psychosocial factors involved with HIV
- Hear from people engaged in the HAVEN community
- Learn about HAVEN and all the services it provides

A more specialized training is provided for individuals who wish to become a Buddy to someone living with HIV. |
